What Is The Treatment For Wegener's Disease?

Hello Doctor,

I was previously diagnosed with Wegener's Disease by the Mayo Clinic, I lived and worked in Rochester, MN. Mayo has always been my health care provider. They found a perforation from all the sinus infections I have had in the last three years. They inserted a "button" to help defray the crusting. They were certain I had Wegener's. In the meantime, it was discovered by my dentist that I had an abcessed tooth. All my levels went back to normal. They dismissed Wegener's. In the interim, I have moved to Florida, and am still having severe nasal crusting. I literally have to pull out the crusts with a hemostat. I do my nasal rinses religiously but it goes on and on. And I still get infections. Do you have any idea what is wrong with me? I would really appreciate some input here. Thank you so much.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Wagener's granulomatis isan autoimmune disorder which is characterised by presence of auto-antibodies in the blood.
The diseases affects the upper respiratory tract, lower respiratory tract and kidneys also.
Septal perforation is also a complication of this disorder.
The disease has a progressive course and it has to be managed conservatively.
The nasal septum perforation has to be managed by procedures like button insertion, etc.
In case there is infection, it has to be managed with antibiotics.
The disease can be controlled by immunsuppressants.
Thus, you need to stay in touch with your treating doctor.

Thanks and take care
