What Is The Treatment For Swollen Lymph Nodes In The Right Side Of The Neck?

Hello, I m 17 years old. May 1st the lymph nodes on the right side of my neck got very swollen. A couple days ago my throat started hurting occasionally throughout the day, and would stop after taking an Advil. I woke up today and my throat was covered in white spots and the pain was some what more annoying then usual. It was difficult to swallow as well. My mother brought me to the doctor where I was given and tested positive for mono. I ve had no symptoms of fatigue, fever, lose of appetite, or painful stomach whatsoever. My prom is this upcoming Friday (May 13th). I m scared to death that I will get worse and will be unable to addend. Any chance of me getting more symptoms?? -Thanks, Emily

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, thanks for reaching out.

I understand your concern, usually mononucleosis caused by EBV may consists of several symptoms like body pain, fatigue, fever, sore throat, nausea, headache, swollen, salivary glands, swollen lymph nodes, sore and enlarged tonsils. It passes through saliva even after a few days of symptoms subsiding.

Of which some may present with all symptoms, some may present with few symptoms.

It is advisable to have bed rest, restrict activity, complete the dose of painkillers advised, and plenty of fluids is very important. Avoid irritation to the throat.

Self care is important. It may persist for weeks even if symptoms subside(2 weeks- 8weeks) depending on treatment and progress.

Hope this answers your queries,
Take care,
Regards,
