two yrs ago my then 17yr old son developed Henoch Schonlein Purpura after several throat infections that summer. He developed purpura on his legs & bottocks, swollen joints & swelling of his feet/ankles.He did experience pain in his lower extremiies & generalized weakness. His kidneys were monitored for 6 months..This past summer he developed mono according to his cbc that was shown to us 2 weeks after he was at the ER. also his ct scan abdomen showed spenomegaly. This child was in so much pain throughout his entire body. He received morphine which took the edge off & was sent home on ultram & omeprazole. Thay also r/o calculi. This 17 yr old boy was in bed for 1 week just moaning! At his f/u visit with PCP, a rpt ct of abdomen was done with his spleen almost back to normal size.My biggest concern was this related to HSP syndome. We were told if he ever developed the purpura again, we were to take him directly to the ER. Well now this evening he developed a sore throat & called me in to the bathroom where he was spitting up blood-tinged mucus. Not gross about blood but blood -tinged. Any thoughts or recommendations? He is 19, 74 inches tall & weighs 172 lbs
