What Is The Treatment For Post Partum Depression?

I have a daughter in law who is having post partum depression. She has been an opiate and benzo user long ago and went through rehab.Since she has had my grandson (now 6 months old) she has been drug seeking and my son found her to be hallucinating last night. She goes to a group at the Childrens Hospital here for postpartum depression. She has just recently been taken off Zoloft and placed on cymbalta. Would abilify be a better choice? I am a seasoned nurse but am on disability for RA. She has stolen my oxycodone and valium which I have on hand for severe restless legs. I have had eight children per c-section and never experienced postpartum depression so I have a hard time understanding this. But I am not saying I don't believe in it. My son and I fear for the baby and himself. I need to talk to her as I have had much experience with all types of mental health patients. I want her to feel loved yet to realize what she is about to lose as my son can't feel safe to go to work leaving the baby with her.

HI
Thanks for using healthcare magic

I think, she has post partum psychosis rather than depression. Hallucination happens in psychosis. In that case, abilify is a good option. Normally, in such condition, patients could harm their children, so better to avoid her interaction with baby. If she does breast feeding, in that case, prefer to give medication at night and give feeding before taking drug.

Thanks
