What Is The Suggestion For Cough With Phlegm And Difficulty In Breathing?

Hello, Whatever I have is kicking my butt... It started about 9 days ago. I had bad headaches for 6 days and then all of a sudden they went away. The first three days were simply just headaches that didn t allow me to do anything. On day 4, I started to get a fever and the night sweats. This persisted until day 7 and now on days eight and nine, my ears are plugged and I have this cough with phlegm. At the end of my breath it sounds like crackling inside (assuming that is the phlegm). I m tired of being sick and I tried many different fixes Tylenol extra strength, dayquil, nyquil, alka seltzer plus, and now I am trying mucinex... What would you suggest or think this is?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
All the symptoms mentioned started 10 days ago with butt pain, headache, fever, night sweats , plugging of ears and at last COUGH & PHLEGM.
These symptoms may be due to , these includes.
1 Allergic bronchitis , as you mentioned that there is a cracking inside chest or lungs means crepitation or expectoration or phlegm . Actually this is due to borncoconstriction which develop whistling sound . When cracking sound hears means due to secondary infection ( phlegm has developed ).Mite , dust , sudden fall & rise of temperature , pollen molds , cotton thread fibers , smokes are predisposing factors of these symptoms and known as allergy , if infection is there we call it as allergic bronchitis ( as in your case) . So ,if possible avoid these predisposing factors.
When such type of patient visit in my clinic I prescribe monteleukast+ bambuterol ( combo) twice or once in day depending upon the severity of infection & allergy.
2 As you mentioned that there is phlegm , so may be due to bronchiectasis . Diagnosis can be confirmed by physical as well clinical examination by a physician . Also get in blood for C B C, E SR , X ray chest with sputum examination.
3 Tuberculosis is least possible cause in your case due to short history of illness.
As you mentioned that you took so many medicine like , paracetamol , nyquil , for common cold, mucilex i.e ambroxole etc but these all medicines are only for relief not for cure .
In my opinion consult physician and get his opinion.
Good luck.
