What Is The Remedy For Painful Calf Muscle With Bruises?

My son had a bad auto accident in 2007 which broke his femur and thus had pins inserted for repair the injury. Recently each and every time he rides his bike, his knee becomes swollen and hurts to bend Two weeks ago the same thing happened and while the pain and swelling began to improve in the knee area, he now has a very painful calf muscle and it has begun to bruise all the way down to his ankle area (which is very swollen) Elevation and ice packs along with Ibuprofen is helpful but it seems to be getting worse. Knee no longer hurts. How do you suggest we proceed from here?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
First you repeat x ray of his femur to check if fracture is in position and pin is not causing any problem. It can be a knee ligament injury which was not diagnosed at that time. If possible get MRI of knee joint. This will give more information. You should meet a orthopaedic surgeon and he will be able to diagnose your problem.
