What Is The Remedy For A Dent In The Centre Of Forehead After A Head Injury?

hi my 16 year old son got attacked by 4 youths last week and had his head repetitively smashed on some stairs basically they stomped on the back of his head and the front was bashing on the concrete steps anyway needless to say with a head that was swollen to about 4 times its normal size i rushed him to hospital where we were basically fobbed of and told swelling is normal and he has a broken nose. initially after the attack his speach went very confused and stuttery but after half hour it returned to normal. at the hospital they didnt listen to any of this and sent us home without even an xray of his head. a week on he has 2 very black eyes which i expected however his nose keeps bleeding and the swelling on his head is going down but now we have noticed a large dent in the centre of his forehead .. is this normal???

I'm so sorry that this happened to your son. Thankfully he seems to have escaped the worst of it. Most head injuries can be observed and sort of waited out as long as the doctors have ruled out any internal bleeding. At this point i would like to say that the 'Dent' is probably some residual swelling of the muscles and tendons covering the skull. But the only way to 'rule out' any bony damage is to get an x-ray. The nosebleeds also could be due to the broken nose and it would be a good idea to have him seen by your doctor for that. They might send you to an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist who will counsel you further on the need for any repairs or not.

So, all in all. A visit to your family doctor and an x-ray would be a good way to deal with the follow-up of your sons head injury.
