What Is The Reason For Red, Scaly Spots On Back Of A 3 Year Old Kid?

I have a three year old son who has some spots on his back. There is three of them and they are right along his spine on his lower back. He says they hurt and they are red and sort or scaley feeling when you touch them. I am not sure if this is something I need to be concerned about or if it is just a bruise of some sort.

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM,

The condition you described sounds like pityriasis rosea with scaly red lesions along the spine on the back. But since it hurts it could be an infection, like impetigo.

P. rosea would self resolve with in 6-12 weeks, but impetigo needs stat treatment. I'd advise you to consult your dermatologist and get oral antibiotics prescribed.

Hope I helped

Hi
Thanks for writing to healthcare magic.
It could be warts or folliculitis.
Try some local emollient like aloe vera cream .
It should settle soon.
Hope I answered your query

Arun
