What Is The Correct Dosage Of Sulfameth/Trimethoprim 800/160 Mg?

I was prescribed Sulfameth/Trimethoprim 800/160 mg for a sty. I am to take 1 every twelve hours for 10 days. I have experienced loss of appetite, nausea and fever. When I called ask about the symptoms, I was told to break in half and take one every 6 hours. I am wondering if this dosage is to much for me.

The dosage of this medication may vary with age and body weight. For adults, 800/160mg twice daily is the recommended dosage. Taking half a tablet every 6hours is not the best way to prescribe this drug as it generally has a half life of approximately 12hours. You may be taking small insignificant doses that never add up to active levels to keep the infection controlled. The best thing is to confront your doctor about this as it doesn't seem right to me.
