What Is The Cause Of A Heavy Period?

Hi my name is Hayley and I'm 26 and my period was 6 days late and when it did arrive it was short it only lasted 3 days and was heavy for the second then it stopped. Now I'm constantly eating and can't get enough sleep. I eat and sleep. What could it be?

Thanks for your query.
Heavy periods are common.
In some cases a cause is found such as endometriosis, fibroids, and other conditions .
However, especially you are younger women and you do not have any symptoms to suggest anything other than dysfunctional uterine bleeding.
The cause is not known .
In most cases treatment is effective by using medication to reduce bleeding.
A blood test to check for anaemia is usually performed.
Because you bleed heavily each month then you may not take in enough iron in your diet, needed to replace the blood that you lose.
