What Is Meaning Of Infiltration Moderate To Poor And Differentiated Adenoca Of Stomach?

My husband was just dx with stomach ca, "Infiltrating moderately to poorly differentiated adenoca of stomach with mucinous features (signet ring cell features).PET scan scheduled. From literature this appears to be a pretty aggressive ca. What is overall prognosis with this ca and are there known centers of excellence for treatment??

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Sorry to know about the diagnosis.
My opinion is as follows:
1. Infiltration means - it is invading into deeper tissues ( it has gone very deep)
2. poorly differentiated - means the tumor cells are difficult to identify as of origin
3. adenocarcinoma of stomach -it means epithelial carcinoma arising from glands
4. Signet ring cells with mucinous features indicate poor prognosis.
5. There are numerous factors affecting prognosis like lymphnode status, other organs involvement. Average 5 year survival rate is less than 10% in severe cases.
6. Further advise regarding treatment and prognosis is possible only after PET scan.

Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
