What Is Liver FNAC?

Hi sir, good evening,....

My mom aged 55 years who is suffering from high back pain since may 2011. Recently we consulted the doctors in ASIAN INSTITUTE OF GASTROENTEROLOGY. They have taken all the tests like CT SCAN, colonoscopy, and other blood and urine tests... But another test named LIVER FNAC's result is yet to come...

Now my mom is getting high pain at the back ribs.... What is LIVER FNAC, And how the treatment would be if something negatively the report of that test?

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

Liver FNAC fine needle aspiration cytology is a small needle test by which any suspected area in the liver can be analysed through the microscope. The procedure involves inserting a thin needle under imaging guidance and aspirating few drops from the suspected area in the liver that is affected. It is least painful and local anesthesia is given where the needle is inserted. The entire procedure takes less than a minute to do and patient can go home soon after.

Treatment depends on FNAC result because it will show the exact nature of cells in the affected area of the liver. Sometimes, the cells can be benign which require no treatment or inflammatory that requires treatment with antibiotics. Rarely a malignancy might be found and that is treated as per the presence of other clinical features.

Please send the liver FNAC report to me when it comes if you want to discuss in detail
