Hello, Welcome to ask a doctor services. I have read your query. If you are not wanting pregnancy, do continue to take the birth control pills. Heavy bleeding or breakthrough bleeding may occur as a side effect of birth control pills as the body adjusts with the pills. The symptoms go away after a couple of weeks.

Not all women experience these symptoms. Hormone based contraceptives do cause spotting or abnormal bleeding. When these birth control pills are used for a long time, they may affect the lining of the uterus & hence heavy bleeding may occur. Hope I have answered your question. Take care.
