What Does "Pus Cells 4-5/hpf And RBCs 1-2/hpf" In Stool Test Indicate?

Hi, I had typhoid and amebea recently, and used first Cypro and after that metronadizole one after another.

I have finished the metronadizole a week ago, however since monday I started to feel extreme bowel movements, gas and loose stool.

I saw my doctor, he repeated the tests, the blood count looks normal, but the stool test indicates:

Pus Cells 4-5/hpf and RBCs 1-2/hpf. The rest is NIL (Ova/Trop, Cyst). My doctor said it is due to long use of antibiotics and prescriped me probiotics.

But I am still worried whether I could be developing another infection (C-difficile??) or colitis. Any idea or advice?

Hello and welcome to HCM,

The stool test report suggests that the amoebic infection has cleared away with anti-microbial.
Presence pus cells in stool suggests bacterial infection, inflmmatory bowel disease, abscess or fistulous tract.
However, the number of pus cells is too low to label it as anything.
A course of probiotics can be started and a repeat stool test ordered after its completion.
Presence of red blood cells in stools suggests some knid of bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract.
Bleeding can be due to infection and ulcer.

However, as said above a repeat stool test can be done after a course of probiotic.

Thanks and take care
