Please give additional information for me to assist you better:
Was the stool hard or normal?
Any associated pain while passing stool or after passing?
Any continued burning or pain sensation?
Any associated symptoms like pain in abdomen, bloating, constipation or changed bowel movement habits?
Any other diseases?

Awaiting.

I have been constipated over the past few weeks. There was not any burning sensation, or bloating. The stool looked pretty normal. The dark blood was on the toilet paper. Darker than normal dark if that makes sense. I have had a little pain in my lower back.
I take medication for my stomach but forget the name of it. I take it once a day.

Brief Answer:
As detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Painless bleeding in stool is indicative of the following:
Hemorrhoids also called as piles is the commonest reason and constipation usually precipitate the the problem.
Fissure in ano is usually painful hence may not be the case.
Other rare causes are polyp, ulcer, procto-colitis and so on.
The only way is to get per-rectal digital examination and ano-proctoscopy, preferably colonoscopy considering the age of 54.
Please get these done.
ALso get the relevant blood and stool tests.
These will give the exact diagnosis so that a proper treatment can be planned.
I hope this answer helps you to get an early and proper diagnosis and plan for management.
Please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.

11 years ago- colonoscopy: found nothing, declared diarrhea to be due to ibs. Eliminated triggers: dairy, caffiene, high fat. For years- saving grace was carbs. BUT I still had bouts of diarrhea and was never really normal. (Note: stomach was always flat, unless I overate and bm would quickly shrink back stomach). December 2009- bad abdominal pains: ultrasounds found a bunch of cysts but my doc. said they are not large enough to be causing pain. Weight: 128. (Note: highest in 15 years.) Big Change... Feb 2010- people are telling me i look really skinny. Stepped on scale, 120 pounds (lowest weight in 15 years). Horrible stomach distention and pain, No matter what I eat or drink. when I wake up stomach is somewhat flat, but still pudgy. After ingesting anything, it balloons, 2-3 months pregnant / no relief. Tests: Blood- protein levels off, low iron and b12, celiac test just a little off (but not true indicator that I have the disease, I am told). Colonscopy / endoscopy- biospy for celiac (negative). Found mast cells- h2 allergy cells, which dr said was strange . Said I must just have ibs, and told me to take pepcid for mast cells, but didn t address why I have them. 2nd opinnion- gastroenterolgist said he would have said celiac, but saw biopsy was negative. He was about to dismiss me as ibs and give me pills. Then when I inquired about the mast cells, only then did he actually read my report (and his eyes bulged). He said it appears I might have colitis and put me on pepto for 2 months- then I should call him to give update. Skin allergy test- minor (level 1) only allergic to corn, walnuts and celery, significant (level 2) fish allergies- I don t even eat fish though Please help!! I feel like i m wasting away, and stomach is always in pain and bloated. I am forced to associate eating with pain now. I went off gluetin for 1 week, and didn t notice results but then ate it again when biopsy was negative. I am planning to go off it again for as long as I can, on my own accord. I feel it is the only hope I have now, but it will be hard because I can t eat any milk product, and high fat foods (beacuse of the ibs) hurt my stomach so I have to eat in moderation.

Friend had severe sickness, diarrhea & stomach pain possible diagnosis of colitis. However, although slowly recovering he had hearing loss in left ear which has not improved. No answers have been given as to what this could be or how to treat it. Any suggestions?

Can tonsillitis cause Stomach and Intestional problems, from the drainage of the infected puss, or mucus into the stomach region? I am wondering if my laying down at nite with post nasal drip is causeing the infected mucus/puss to get into my stomach and cause my stomach to get overly gassy, and now i am having serious bouts of constipation, and sometimes even diahrrea..... I feel feverish and almost like I am near shock when these episodes occur, or could it not be associated with that at all, and possibaly be colitis/diverticulitis, or even something more serious like Chrones disease, or Cancer? My bloodwork comes back normal other than a vitamin D deficiency. I also have tingling sensations in my extremities quite often. When these episodes happen, i feel burning in my stomach associated with frequent feeling of having to use the bathroom, but then cant cause I am backed up. I also have been passing foul smelling green stools, and very loose mucus stools as well...... I just had blood work done again, and cannot go to the doc for another week because i am leaving the states to go on my honeymoon, however, I would hate a flair up there. Is there anything u would so kindly recommend, or suggest that maybe I havnt tried? I am currently on Hyoscyamine (.375MG TAB twice daily), as well as aprazolam (2MG twice daily) I was on Nexium but cant afford it right now, so have also been taking Prilosec OTC, and it hasnt helped nearly as much as the Nexium did. I want comfort again, and am sick of these symptoms plaguing me each and every day.......... Pls get back to me here, and pls also send me an email of ur sugestions to YYYY@YYYY , and thankyou for your advise in advance............ I just cant wait to feel better for good..............
