What Does "AST (GOT) At 103 And ALT (GPT) At 109" Mean?
I'm supposed to go for pre-admision tomorrow and I just picked up my blood results showing that I have AST (GOT) at 103 and ALT (GPT) at 109. I do not know what this means and would like to know if this high reading will hinder an operation? The BUN is 23.0 & CREATININE (IDMS) is 1.28 Thank you for your attention,
AST and ALT are liver function tests. These are liver enzymes known as aminotransferases and reflect the functioning of liver though it may be raised due to other reasons too. It may not necessarily hinder an operation but your doctor will be guarded and guide you.
Your blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine are within normal limits. These are kidney function tests.
