What Does Glucose Screening Test Of 147 Suggest?

Hi im 27 weeks pregnant and had a 1 hour glucose screening test last week and got the result and it was 147, is that consider high? I dont have a history of diabetes and i don't eat sweets stuff, but im asian i do eat a lot of white rice, you think that's causing my glucose elevated? Im 39 and this is my 3rd pregnancy, i never had this from my previous pregnancies. So please can you help me? What causes it? And also my hemoglobin is 11 is that normal? Or low?? Thanks!

Your 1 hr glucose test gave a reading of 147 mg/dl. This is a high value and hence you need to do a 3 hr glucose test which is a superior and accurate test to know if you are diabetic or not. If the 3 hr glucose test comes as abnormal then you have gestational diabetics mellitus. Do not worry as you can start the diabetic medication and if you take it regularly then your baby will be safe and you can deliver normally. Hemoglobin of 11 is on the borderline, it is preferable for it to be around 12 to 13, so you need to take 100mg of elemental iron daily to improve your hemoglobin.
