What Does Disc Protrusion In The Test Report Suggest?

I have got my test results back today and do not really understand what they mean. It shows that I have broad based shallow posterior disc protrusion and degenerative spurring at the lumbosacral junction flattening anterior thecal sac and contacts emerging s1 nerve roots. also a right far lateral disc protrusion that asymmetrically contacts the exiting right l5 nerve root. Can you please explain this in simple terms. I have to see a specialist and I am unsure what it all means.

Hello

Report suggests degenerative disc disease of lumbar spine.

1.At L5-S1 level, there is broad based shallow protrusion of disc in posterior direction which is flattening anterior thecal sac and it is in contact with emerging S1 nerve roots. There is also disc protrusion in right lateral direction which is in contact with exiting right L5 nerve roots.

2.There is also degenerative spurring,it is due to chronic pull on annulus fibrosis.

Majority of the cases of early degenerative spine disease are managed by physiotherapy, analgesics and muscle relaxants. You should consult your doctor.

Surgery should be last option.

Get well soon.
