Hi Dr. I have made several blood tests for the past years and i am worried about the GGT result which is showing a constant increase for the past years and reached now 160 knowing that i drink alcohol occasionally
CHOLESTEROL * 2.31 g/l 1 - 2 2.40 HDL CHOLESTEROL 0.66 g/l > 0.50 0.66 LDL CHOLESTEROL * 1.42 g/l TRIGLYCERIDES 1.15 g/l S G P T 51 U/l 21 - 72 50 S G O T 44 U/l 17 - 59 34 GAMMA G T * 160 U/l 15 - 73
Increased GGT indicates alcoholic liverinjury. SGPT is also increased due to liver injury. It is important to know other parameters of LFT like bilirubin level. SGOT is non specific and it increases in other conditions also. Ultrasound of abdomen should be done. Besides medicine you also need life style modification and diet changes. You can take tablet Ursodeoxycholic acid 300 mg twice daily for three months. It will help in regeneration of liver cells. You should avoid fatty food and take lot of fruits and vegetables. You should also increase your physical activity in the form of walking and exercise. You should completely avoid alcohol consumption.
