Hi,
Welcome to HCM. I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
The random value of insulin is not high in your case. Probably your doctor is working you up for
insulin resistance.
Please share with us your symptoms
What is your height and weight?
Is there any one in your family with diabetes?
Insulin is checked at two times
1. Fasting - after 8 hours of fasting This is called fasting insulin or "Basal" insulin secretion
Normal values : less than 25 or 30 miu/ml
2. After taking food -
glucose is the stimulus for insulin secretion. So it is also called "stimulated" insulin levels.
Normal values:
1 hr after food : 18-276 miu/ml
2 hr after food : 16-166 miu/ml (The values vary according to the assay used in labs)
So your value of 36 after food is absolutely normal.
Other tests used in assessing insulin resistance are fasting insulin, fasting blood sugar and
HbA1c (3 months' average blood glucose).
Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help
With warm regards,
