What Could Sudden Appearance Of A Lump On Thyroid Indicate, Have Hypothyroidism?

55yr old female. Hypothyroidism the last 15 yrs taking .125mcg. then reduced to .112mcg about 8mths ago. Gained about 30lbs in a year, brittle nails, thinning hair etc. I do exercise with a trainer, eat healthy. Saw Endocrinologist 2 weeks ago increased meds back to .125mcg. as bloods showed I was hypo. Waiting for results of other tests. Have cough, slightly raspy voice on occasion. Dr found lump on right side of thyroid, had ultrasound today, said I had very large thyroid but no specific lump they could take a biopsy from. My GP examined me yesterday and she felt the lump which she has not felt over the last 15 yrs. Last time I saw her was 8 months ago, no lump then.

Endocrinologist 's  Response
dear ma'm, hi! it is quite possible to have benign thyroid nodules, colloid degeneration in thyroid gland. also hypothyroidism under treated can cause general thyroid enlargement. so take it easy. if USG thyroid is not showing a nodule , may be it is generalized thyromegaly. so for the time being increase the dose as suggested to you, repeat the tests after about 6 weeks and do let us know. regards!
