What Could Cause Menstrual Irregularity?

Hello, I had my last period 38 days ago and around 2 weeks in to this cycle I had some bleeding for a few days but believe this to be because I took the pill for 3 days and then stopped. Would the bleeding in between count as the start of a new cycle?

Hi,

According to your history the possible causes of your spotting are:
- As you mentioned, contraceptive pills when stopped without completing the course can lead to withdrawal bleeding.
- In the middle of the cycle during the time of ovulation sometimes spotting can be seen because of the drop of reproductive hormone levels.

If the spotting was because of withdrawal bleeding due to the contraceptive pills you can count your present menstrual cycle from the date. If you are not using any contraceptive measure, better to rule out the possibility of pregnancy. If urine pregnancy test kit gives a negative result, you can wait for your next period, according to the withdrawal bleeding date.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sree Gouri S. R., OBGYN
