What Could Cause Menstrual Irregularity?

Hi, I was taking sprintec and then hit the placebo week and decided to stop taking the pill. I got my "period" that week and then didn't take any pills for 3-4 additional days. I thought about it again and decided to go back on sprintec, so I had 10 days with no pill, then began taking it again. 5 days after I started taking it again I had sex with my boyfriend who was wearing a condom. Then 3 days after that I stopped taking the pill for good, I decided I didn't like the side effects. 2-3 weeks after I stopped taking it I got a real period with cramps, that lasted 5-7 days, not exactly sure. Now, I have not had sex since that period and am supposed to get my period again now, but it is late. I am extremely paranoid I may be pregnant, is this a realistic concern? Thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

After stopping Contraceptive pills - irregular periods are common, might take few months to return back to regularity. As no history of intercourse in present month, no need to worry about pregnancy.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vidya K. R., General & Family Physician
