What Could Cause Chronic Dry Cough Along With Chest And Throat Discomfort, Which No Specialist Is Able To Diagnose?
I have seen a GI, an ENT a rheumotologist and no one has been able to help me with a chronic dry cough and weird feelings in my chest and throat. Sometimes it is a buring sensation, right now it feels like a knot in my chest. my breathing is never impaired. Gerd has been ruled out. ENT did scope thru nose and found nothing. Rheumotologist did not think it was anything he could help with. Right now I also have a flushed feeling in my face.Even on my good days, always cough at night when i lay down to go to bed. No one has done any blood work. I had chest xray and that was fine. Chronic cough has been going on for well over year. I experience different sensations with it through out that year.
Hi, thank you for asking Healthcare Magic. I have gone through your query and understood your concerns. With this cough that occurs mostly after lying down, I think it is necessary to rule out any heart problem. I think you need to see a cardiologist for proper assessment. But for the burning chest pain and weird feeling and the level of the throat, I still think GERD could be the cause. I would suggest you take proton pump inhibitors for at least 1 month and adopt some lifestyle changes like sitting up for at least 2 hours after meal before going to bed, avoiding alcohol, caffeine-containing foods, fatty foods and spicy foods. I believe this will help you if you try it.
I hope that answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. We will be delighted to answer more questions from you. I wish you good health
