What Could Be The Treatment For 2 Years Old Child With Green Poops, Fever, Night Sweat And Appetite Loss?
My 2 year old son has had decreased appetite and fluid intake (skips some meals) refuses even his favorites, has bright green poop (not normal for him and has not had green foods) and is very soft yet doesn't go daily, fever off and on highest was 100.9, night sweats, wakes up at night. All these symptoms have been ongoing for 1 week. The first day it all started he threw up 4 times and then not again. I am looking for advice please.
Hi thank you for asking Healthcare Magic. I have gone through your query and understood your concerns This is a case of gastroenteritis caused by an infection which could be bacterial or viral. This infection can be from the digestive system or from another system in the body. The child needs a thorough clinical assessment and some laboratory investigations like complete blood count, stool analysis, urinalysis, blood culture and maybe blood parasite. The greenish stool is because the intestinal transit is accelerated and bile (from liver) does not stay long enough in the intestines to be broken down. What you can do at home now is to reduce the temperature when it is high (with acetaminophen syrup or using a wet towel soaked in water) and start rehydrating the child with oral rehydration solution. Then after, you need to take the child to a pediatrician or family doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment.
I hope that answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. We will be delighted to answer more questions from you. I wish him good health
