What could be the reason for numb feeling in upper mouth?

Hello. I have been having a numb feeling in my mouth for some 2 days now. Its like if I m under anesthesia. Feel the numbness when I drink water though I don t get any trouble eating etc. When I do drink hot water i don t feel the numbness in my mouth. I have sinus inflammation quite often & have been on treatment for acid reflux for a while. Any help would be appreciated!

ENT Specialist Dr. Naveen Kumar's  Response
Hi,

Welcome to HealthcareMagic Forum
With the brief history you have mentioned I would recommend you to consult your ENT specialist for further investigations and management. Depending upon your age, history and findings you might require a CT scan of the paranasal sinuses.

Regards
Dr. Naveen Kumar

The inside of my mouth has been feeling numb and has the texture of being burned by really hot food, but I don t have any pain. It has been like this for about 6 weeks. This is the first time I have ever had this condition. What could this be? I m male, 47, have high blood pressure (taking norvasc), had testicle cancer 8 yrs. ago (radiation treatment), have been drinking 5-10 beers a day, 4-6 days a week for about 27 yrs. Dave.

Today I noticed a small bump inside my mouth in the very back between my upper and lower teeth on the left side. I was feeling it with my tongue, and it eventually popped, and puss came out. I have had this bump before in the same spot. What could it be?

I have multiple mouth ulcers in Soft Palate, Area Below the tongue and also inside the lips both sides.Around 30+ mouth ulcers to be precise. I have had mouth ulcer problem as long as i can remember. But usually i used to get 3-4 maximum. I never got 20-30 at a time. What could be the reason of this ? BTW, my ulcers are recovering and i feel much better than 3-4 days ago. I was worried as some friends suggested Oral Ulcers could be a sign of Herpes or HIV. Some more information - My life style has been very bad - 1) I work late at nights. Many times up all night. 2) Eat junk food and fried stuff. 3) Have had GERD and acidity in past. 4) One day before catching sores i had eaten fried, spicy stuff. 5) Had Unprotected Cunnilingus with a person with unknown HIV status. I got myself tested for Blood, Sugar and TSH on Saturday when the ulcers were at their peak. All reports were fine. Lymphocytes count was 33% and all other factors good. Eosoniphil count 10.

I have reflux. Have had it for many years, but recently I had the flu (Jan. 14th) I got over the flu except I couldn t get rid of coughing and thick mucous. X-rays revealed clear lungs. Gastroenterologist did endoscopy a couple of days ago and said esophagus was normal. However, I still have bad relux, terrible burning stomach, esophagus, Larnyx, even up into my throat and mouth. Keep that nasty soured mucous hanging at the back of my throat. Sometimes I have sharp and or consistent pains in between the breast bone and sometimes in the mid part of my stomach. Can the gallbladder cause these symptoms? Doctors have told me for years that they think I may have gallbladder disease without stones. The gasteroenterologist tells me I just have a sensitive esophagus. What do you think?

I suffer from acidity very often. I have done a USG of total abdomen and everything is fine, however, my endoscopy dated March 2006 detected esophagitis and GE lax. The doc has told me that It s incurable and I have it from birth. However, I do not have much reflux problem. I just have acidity problems where I get burning sensation in my esophagus.

My father, who is 79 yrs old and has a quite healthy life, has recently developed some difficulties in swallowing food for around 5-6 months. We had consulted Doctor in a well known Hospital in Delhi and we got endoscopy done which showed a thickening of esophagus wall and the Doctor advised endoscopic biopsy under anesthesia, which could not be completed by the concerned department as the biopsy was not possible from that angle. Now the Doctor had given an option of PET scanning or DL endoscopy and BPOPSY(GA). Meanwhile he prescribed Romilast, which did helped my father while eating food. However, we are not longer sure whether we should go ahead with it, as so far it has been an expensive wild goose chase without any conclusive outcome. We took a second opinion from Lok Nayak Hospital, where a Barium swallow test was done and the report says (R) pyriform sinus(l) lat. aspect of esophagus likely due to damage The Doctor advised that there is nothing to be worried about and it was an age related problem where the esophagus loses its flexibility and becomes stiff and we can continue with the Romilast tabs. I am confused as to what is to be done and Dad is also worried with anxiety as we recently lost my mother with nasopharyingeal carcinoma after a seven year battle with the disease and the sufferings of my mom is still quite fresh in our minds. However, he does not want any treatment, if it turns out to be cancer. Please advise as to which course of action will be better
