What Could Be The Brownish Discharge After The Hemorrhoid?

My husband had a painful hemmoroid for a week. It then suddenly started to bleed but the pain and pressure felt better. The bleeding continued for about 10 days. He now has a brownish colored discharge that is ongoing. Is this a sign the bleeding is almost stopped? Is it starting to heal and go away? Thank you .

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi and thanks for the query,
It is important to note that the bleeding starts generally up in the rectum. Lack of active external bright red blood does not imply complete cessation of bleeding. The brownish discharge generally is fermented blood up front. It generally smells bad. In case of persistence or onset of fever or anal pain, consult a doctor to exclude abscess or other infection. Kind regards
