What Could A Swelling In Ankle That Moved To The Eye Indicate, Doctors Suspect Rheumatoid Arthritis?

This is a note I just received from a friend about her 12 year old daughter. They live about 8 hours from me in Germany. They are struggling with the German health system and they also don't speak much german. They are unsure whether to fly back to the States, but are concerned the long flight back to Altanta would do more harm. What do you think???
Mom about daughter: She started feeling bad on December 30th with a very swollen ankle. She rested and stayed in bed with her foot up on a pillow with ice. As the swelling went down in her ankle it moved into her right eye. Her local pediatrician prescribed eye drops but her eye did not improve. So I was told that we needed to go to the emergency room at the hospital. After seeing two different eye doctors they recommended that she be admitted to the hospital. We were there for 5 nights. She had 6 different eye doctors look at her eye, blood work, and a ultrasound on her ankle and heart. So far, her eye remains stable but not improving. The ultrasound on her ankle showed that she still has some fluid but it is so much better and the ultra sound on her heart showed everything was okay.

Even though she was released from the hospital they still do not know what is wrong with her. The blood work did not confirm anything but the doctors think from her symptoms that she has Rheumatoid arthritis. Her right eye is red and swollen on the inside and her right ankle is still hurting a bit.

Get an ANA profile done.
Assuming the patient also has fever, looks like an auto immune inflammatory condition.
Given your surroundings, I would recommend flying her back to Atlanta and get apt medical care, as eye is by far the most important organ in the body.
Good luck!
