What Causes Weakness And Painful Cramps In Legs?

Hi, My name is Disha, 24 ,Married, working . I am suffering with the problem of B.P. (sometimes low upto 70-100). Also feel weakness specially in legs, gets cramps in legs generally in morning once or twice in a week. It is very painful. During menstruation I feel severe pain in stomach, back n legs. Pain lasts for 2 days. please suggest me what to do.

Hello,

You are suffering from low blood pressure and leg cramps that become very painful. The commonest cause of leg cramps is muscle fatigue, muscle fatigue occurs in summer or when you are dehydrated. Do not exercise when you are exhausted. Drink adequate water and fluids to keep your water electrolyte system under control. Leg cramps also occur when the general health condition is poor or when the muscle mass is reduced.

You are suggested to avoid taking caffeine or alcohol that trigger dehydration. Get adequate magnesium and potassium daily to boost your electrolyte system. Wear compression bandage so that the legs don't swell. Stay active. Do regular workouts to stay fit but do stretch exercises before work outs. Legs cramps can be triggered due to vascular or avascular causes. Venous insufficiency may also cause cramps and lead to swelling in the blood vessels.

You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP to rule out any blood clots that may be causing you symptoms. You will be accordingly treated. In the meantime, take food rich iron, magnesium, calcium and proteins. You can also take supplements to improve your general health. You can take acetaminophen, one SOS when needed. To reduce abdominal cramps you can take Spasmol (Spamoproxyvon), one stat when needed.

Hello,

The pain can be quite normal during menstruation. I would recommend taking ibuprofen 3 times daily during those days. Regarding your other symptoms, I would recommend checking vitamin D plasma levels for possible deficiency. In the meantime, I recommend taking magnesium supplements 400-500mg daily to help reduce the muscle cramps.
