What Causes Tightness, burning And Ringing On The Ears?

I have had a headache and tension around the back of my ears for 2 weeks now. Even after I take excedrine migraine I have a tightness behind my ears and they re also burning and ringing. My ears are cool to the touch but feel like they re burning up. I got an adjustment today and my chiropractor said my neck was awful. Could it just be my neck was out of alignment? Theres still so much tension at the base of where my skull meets my backbone. Any suggestions?

Hi,

Noted your history of tightness neck, Chiropractor did a job, tightness behind ears, ringing in ears, feeling burning of ears.
The most probable causes I can think of are as follows:
The neck muscles all over look to be spasm thus causing nerve pinching and giving you the sensation of burning and so on.
The tinnitus can be a feeling of sound in ears in such cases although any inflammation in the ears nose and sinuses should be ruled out.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Consult an ENT Surgeon to get a proper ENT Endoscopy to see if there is any inflammation or so and get treated accordingly.
The neck muscle spasm can be treated in one of the following ways:
Local application of rubefacient liniment.
Strict rest to the neck by laying down or collar neck if you can not rest.
Muscle relaxant.
Anti-inflammatory.
Reduce the stress and anxiety as these are one of the commonest reason.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT and General Surgeon
