What Causes Swelling Of The Head Of A 2 Year Old After A Fall?

Hi,my 2 year old kid was playing with a few kids yesterday afternoon, when one of the older kids wielded a cricket bat and hit her very hard in the center of her head. She immediately had a big swelling. I put ice and the swelling came down. There is still a bump now after 24 hours. However, she started getting feverish. it is now 24 hours and she has been having high fever not less than 39.4 degrees. With paracetamol it went down slightly to 38.8 but it has not become normal as yet. Her eyes also are red since morning today. Please advise.

Hi....with fever and red eyes I feel your daughter is having a viral illness rather than the symptoms related to the play injury.

The danger symptoms of head injury include - continuous vomiting, loss of consciousness, seizures, double vision, bleeding from Nose and ears and weakness of part of the body.

iIff these are not there you need not be worried about the play injury on the heIf.

For fever I suggest you give Paracetamol in the appropriate dose and duration. If the kid is otherwise active when the fever comes down it is most probably viral and will get better in a day or two.
