What Causes Sudden Some Hearing Loss And Pressure After Teeth Cleaning?

Hello, today I had professional teeth cleaning and right after it i feel sudden ear pressure in my left ear, discomfort and some hearing loss and had blood in my ear. I also feel pain in my salivary glands near there. Is this some side effect of cleaning and will it pass? Should I go to the emergency room? or wait till next day and see ENT specialist? It has been 5 hours already and nothing helps, I cleaned my ear with ear cleaning solution and am chewing gum, also doesn't help...

Hello

Welcome in H.C.M.

I have gone through your query for sudden hearing loss and pressure in ear after teeth cleaning.

As per your clinical history it appears as you are suffering from eustachian tube dysfunction and because of this your middle ear had gone into negative pressure and you feel it as either blocked ear or pressure in ear. Once there is difference of air pressure between middle ear and external ear the tympanic membrane (ear drum) gets retracted or bulge out. In both these situation there is reduce mobility of ear drum and you feel it as loss of hearing.

Your this problem can be treated only by ENT doctor, but till you are in waiting you may take-

1- Steam inhalation.

2- Anti histaminic.

3- Decongestants.

4- Tab paracetamol.

I hope above will give you some relief.

Regards.
