What Causes Stomach Pain And Blood In Stools?

Hi, my daughter is a 23 year old asthmatic who has been attacking for the last few weeks and has a lot of mucus. However, she had a distended bowel as a child also. She has been complaining of stomach pain, cramping, stool urgency and is now passing blood and mucus in her stool. She said it is a fair amount of blood. What are your thoughts?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The blood in stools usually indicates the side effect of drugs as antibiotics, steroid or else used to control the asthma condition.

It is the intestine flora disturbances with GI bleed giving stomach pain and blood in the stool.

A stool microscopy is mandatory here to proceed further. Till that time, she should be taken to her primary care physician for asking about which medicines to be continued at present.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
