What Causes Small, Pea Size Fleshy Bump On Back Of Tongue?

I have a small pea size fleshy bump on the back of my tongue. It is not sore, but very irritating. I had a swollen tongue about a month ago, the dr. said it was an allergic reaction to medication, since that time, I have had a burned feeling in my tongue. What could this be. I have taken a round of medication for yeast infection with not much help.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms a pea sized bump at the back of tongue seems to be an inflamed circumvallate papilla that contains taste buds and burned feeling in tongue known as Glossitis can be due to allergy to medication but in case if it is progressive even after one month and if you have stopped taking the medicine then it would not be due to allergy..
If still the medicine is continued the burning tongue can be due to it..

Another common causes of Glossitis can be dry mouth, yeast infection known as Thrush, nutritional deficiency [ vitamin B12, iron and folic acid], dry mouth, burning with hot foods or chemicals etc..

Nothing to worry consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and treatment of underlying cause will relieve the symptoms.

As of now you can gargle with a numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine, take anti-inflammatorY painkiller Ibuprofen, suck ice pops and do cold water rinses.
Avoid hot and spicy food and drink plenty of water.

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
