What Causes Short Quick Stabbing Pains Under Left Lower Rib Cage And Lower Back Rib Cage Simultaneously?

I m getting short quick stabbing pains under left lower rib cage also and lower back rib cage simultaneously I am concerned pancreatitis pancreatic cancer runs and family and I ve done a lot of smoking and drinking in the last 10 years also as of lately my urine is the T color unless I drink more water than it seems to go away but it does come back this is a recent thing what could that mean?

Hi,

The most common cause of short stabbing pain in the lower ribs in front as well as back is costochondritis. Pancreatitis causes pain deep within in center of abdomen and is referred to the back in center along with other symptoms like nausea, vomiting, bloating and so on. I can understand your concerns as pancreatic problem runs in your family. Hence it is of utmost importance to rule out the conditions related to pancreas.

I would advise you the following:
- Consult a Gastroenterologist for clinical evaluation, get the blood tests done.
- Ultrasonography and CT scan and/or MRCP to study for any pancreatic problems. If all the investigations are normal get treated as a case of costochondritis and you may be fine.
