What Causes Shooting Pain In Right Bicep And Bruise In Inner Arm?

I have a shooting extreme pain in my right bicep. A little bruise developed in my inner arm and I have numbness in my hand. I did weight training 5 days ago but the shooting pain in my arm is becoming more frequent instead of less. I am not using it at all right now

Physical Therapist or Physiotherapist 's  Response
Hello,

As this pain sounds more of the cervical Radiculopathy and an MRI cervical spine is advised.

Usually in the gym most of the times when a person is doing weight training there is an isometric high-intensity contraction of the muscles of the neck. Which may lead to changes in the position of the spine and the intervertebral disc. Due to which there will be a nerve root entrapment and radiating pain.

I will advise to stop weight training for now and re-plan the exercise prescription for yourself. The best way is to first get rid of this radiating pain. So kindly do hot water fermentation to the neck and start doing static neck exercises. Then do shoulder stabilization exercises and inter-scapular muscle strengthening exercises. Post which stabilizes the core. Then go with 1RM protocol for the weight training. Any exercise should begin with isometric and then into the isotonic. So this will help avoid gym injuries and won't stop you entering the gym for weight training.

Replan the whole prescription and go slow. Any injury occurs is irreversible and you might not be happy. The body needs to get prepared before undergoing any kind of weight training.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello,

The shooting pain with a bruise is suggestive of internal bleeding in the muscle due to a tear. This needs complete rest and ice to help the internal bleeding stop.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
