What Causes Severe Vomiting And Chills After Drinking Alcohol?

my husband had too much to drink last night (margaritas). He was throwing up multiple times during the night (even after there was nothing left in him). He also had the chills. Are these symptoms related to the alcohol or is something else going on?

Hello!Binge drinking often ends up in severe alcoholic gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining) leading to frequent vomiting and retching. The chills are due to his involuntary (autonomic) nervous system coming into play due to a sudden fluid loss secondary to persistent vomiting. However it is possible that he may be having known or currently unknown coexisting illness (like liver disease, diabetes , high blood pressure or heart disease) which could also contribute to the autonomic reaction manifest as a feeling of coldness, sweating and restlessness. Do get the relevant lab investigations done. All the best!
