What Causes Ringing Sensation In The Ear?

Hi there is something going on with my ears, over the last year in particular, I have had vertigo and my hearing has dulled, the same feeling as when I am on a plane but my ears aren t popping like they used to , I was always prone to this but recently there has been no change, my hearing hasn t deteriorated so to speak, but I am increasingly frustrated with the dulled feeling in my ears and the dizziness. Would pulsitilla, belladonna and silicea be useful for this...they seemed to resonate with me when I read about them. Many Thanks Paula

Hi,

Vertigo is giddiness or sense of rotation that is one of the symptoms you have and the others are: dull feeling in ears, unable to pop ears, feeling as if in a plane and ringing sensation that is tinnitus.
All these symptoms taken together can be due to one of the following reasons:
Eustachian tube dysfunction, hence unable to pop ears with secondary changes in middle ear and so on.
Inflammation of inner ear structures like cochlea and vestibule.
Some tumor in brain.
Hence I would advise you the following:
Consult an ENT Surgeon for proper clinical evaluation, ENT Endoscopy and other investigations like CT scan and MRI for mastoid structures and brain.
Audiometry.
Watch for hypertension and diabetes.
All these will give a proper diagnosis and thus will allow a specific management as per the cause found.
Better to stop to do Valsalva like popping the ears unless taught by your Doctors.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
