What Causes Pulsating Vein Above The Eyebrow?

Hello, I m a 44yr old male. 5 11 , 170 lbs. No history of high blood pressure or heart disease. I m not being treated for any illnesses or diseases, no medications. non smoker, occasional social drinker (couple beers every few months). Do have high cholesterol. Starting late last night (saturday night) I ve experienced a throbbing or pulsating vein slightly above my left eyebrow but more to the left not directly above the eyebrow. It s a visible pulsing. No pain, nausea, vomiting, or dizziness accompanying it. Lasts maybe 10-20 seconds. sporadically happened throughout the today, maybe 10 times total. Started to get concerned; can it be a sign of heart attack, stroke, aneurism or something?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history of pulsating vein above left eyebrow without any symptoms, no history of hypertension or diabetes, now concerned about Heart attack or stroke or aneurysm.
First of all, settle yourself as there are no local symptoms of pain or so and you do not have hypertension or so.
The commonest cause I can think about is as follows:
Vasculitis that is inflammation of the superficial temporal artery is the commonest cause and the site of such occurrence.
I would advise you the following:
Consult you Doctor for a general check-up and local examination as palpation would help him out to confirm.
Routine tests of blood like CBC, ESR, Sugar, kidney and thyroid functions. Special tests like C-reactive protein and any others.
Get a reference to the Specialist for further investigations, evaluation and proper management as needed.
Good counselling will also be done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT and General Surgeon
