What Causes Prolonged Bleeding During Periods?

Hi Doctor,

My mensus started on 10th January and last for around 12 days , I felt very weak and consulted a Gynochologist, he prescribed Primolut N tablet with another tablet called Transaine.Then mensus stopped and I stopped medicine but now again mensus has started. Please advise what should be done. I feel weak again.

Hello, I would be happy to help you with your question.

In the setting of abnormal bleeding, in order to stop your bleeding, it was treated correctly. But, there needs to be a workup that would include:

1. Check of labs: pregnancy test, blood counts, and thyroid
2. Ultrasound to look for fibroids or polyps

Then, you need to discuss ways to regulate your cycles more effectively so that this does not become a recurrent problem. Birth control pills are a great option assuming the workup is negative.
