What Causes Plugged Ears After Bronchitis?

I recently had a bout of bronchitis. At the time I was examined the physician said I had fluid behind my left eardrum.I was placed on zpak. The following night I had pain in my left ear later that night I woke up to bloody drainage from that ear. I assume the eardrum perforated. The bronchitis is better but some cough lingers. My left ear feels plugged? Is this the after affect of the perforated eardrum and should it resolve itself?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have plugged ears after bronchitis which is due to Eustachian tube dysfunctioning. It could be due to injury to inner ear. I would suggest you to visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should go for otiscopic examination and audimetery testing and start treatment after proper diagnosis. You should take antiallergic medication such as Levocetrizine. Take proper course of antibiotic along with mucolytic agents. As you have cough take cough exoectorants as well and get X-ray chest done to check extent of infection. You should do warm saline gargles. You should take steam inhalation.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
