What Causes Pain In The Wrist For Close To A Month In A Badminton Player?

Hi Dr. I am suffering with pain in my right wrist for last 25 days. Paining is happening at a particular point and it happens only when I presses that particular point. I did not have any accident or any other thing. I play badminton daily. Is it some type of fracture or something else?

Hello,

Pain in your right wrist is more likely related to playing badminton (if you play with your right hand). A lot of exertion is on the wrist joint and sometimes, it goes unnoticed, but the pain starts later.

Most probably you got it due to injury to some internal structure of the wrist, like ligament / muscle / bone and that is leading to pain. Whenever a patient comes to me with similar complains and history, I suggest him to take Ibuprofen for pain relief and some ointment or spray for local application to get relief from pain. I advice the patient to take rest ( do not play any sports) for a week or two which will help in quick recovery.

If it helps to recover in a week then there is no need to go for any imaging tests. If the pain persists for weeks then it is best to see a doctor and get an X-ray of the wrist joint done. After that follow the doctor’s advice for further management.

Hope this helps. Feel free to contact for further query.
