What Causes Pain And Swelling In Ear?

hi. My 16 month old son has woken up with a very swollen and red left ear. He looks like he is in alot of pain, screeming and pointing at and rubbing the ear. Yesterday he had been quite clingy and unsettled and was often rubbing his ear. He hasn t been eating much either. Apart from those symptoms he had a very nasty nappy rash a few days ago, which seems to have mostly cleared up now.

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Where is the swelling?

It may be due to middle ear infection or otitis externa or condritis etc. Until examination is done it is a difficult to say what it is. Use tablet amoxicillin and clavulinic acid 375 thrice a day for five days. If symptoms not improved please consult with your ENT specialist he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
