What Causes Lightheadedness In A Diabetic Patient?

Glimepiride was added to my medication about three /four months ago. Saturday, I had not eaten anything after breakfast until late afternoon. I felt extremely lightheaded and began sweating. The light headedness really frightened me. This had never happen before. My sister-in-law, upon seeing me, quickly gave me a glass of coke as I began to eat. Yesterday, I briefly experienced a similar feeling. I have not been put on a special diet and wonder if my eating habits could have cause my sugar to drop excessively low? I was not able to take my blood glucose check either time/

Diabetologist 's  Response
Hi, i had gone through your query and understood your concerns.

The lightheaded feeling, sweating are the prominent symptoms of low blood sugar levels. The condition is called hypoglycemia. As you are diabetic, you must have regular food habits. You should never be out of food after medication. If you ever experience the similar condition, you need eat small amount of sugar or a biscuit and immediately have food.

Hope this helps you. Thank you.
