What Causes Intermittent Chest Pain?

I have lupus, and I frequently have chest pain on my left side, kind of high up just above left breast. I also have a hard time taking deep breaths, both with this pain and without, intermittently. All the research i've done leads me to beleive it's not my heart but I would just like some feed back on this issue.

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Lupus can affect lungs and heart.
In lungs, it can cause pulmonary embolism, pulmonary infarction, lung infection, bronchitis etc. And all these can cause cough, chest pain and breathing difficulty.
Similarly, Lupus can cause heart diseases like pericarditis, myocarditis, angina etc. All these can also cause similar kind of symptoms.
So we need to investigate for both the systems (lungs and heart).
So get done ecg and 2d echo to rule out heart diseases.
Get done chest x ray, PFT (pulmonary function test) and CT thorax to rule out lung causes.
So better to first diagnose your self and then start appropriate treatment.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
