What Causes Increased Heart Beats?
My 7 yr. old son was diagnosed with strep throat today and has been running high fevers of 102.8 and 103.5. He weighs 52 lbs. I gave him his tsp of amoxicillin and have been alternating (8 ml.) of motrin and tylenol for the fever. Recently he complained of feeling like his heart is hitting the front of his chest and it is beating fast and hard enough I can see it beating just by looking at his chest. Could this be caused by the meds or the gatorade he drank earlier?

The tachycardia or fast heart beating your son has is due to fever and dehydration. It's known as sinus tachycardia and can cause palpitations. It would reduce if you give him more liquids for dehydration and medication for fever.
