What Causes Increased Heart Beats?

Usually when I am just sitting relaxing I feel my heart give what seem like extra strong beats and it feels like if I looked in a mirror I would see my chest move. I am normal weight , aged 46 and exercise regularly. I gave up caffeine a few months ago but it still happens. Any ideas?

Hi,

It will be useful if you count your heart rate and see if it's above 100 and if it is regular or irregular. An ECG will be useful while you are feeling the palpitations. Evaluation of anemia and thyroid function tests will also be useful.

Hope I have answered your query.
