What Causes Headache With Red Rash All Over The Body?

Hello, My 14-year-old daughter got a throbbing headache which was soon followed by red blotchy skin all over her body (with few exceptions). Her temperature is 95.3 (per home digital thermometer). I ve given her ibuprofen and Benadryl. She is having some chills. We had just finished dinner at a restaurant, but has no known food allergies

Neurologist 's  Response
Hi,

This reaction clearly sounds like some type of food allergy or at least hyper-reactivity of her food to something that she ingested or was exposed to in the restaurant. I would replace the IBUPROFEN with TYLENOL in terms of giving her acute doses for the headache and skin inflammation. I agree with the Benadryl which will make her sleepy.

You should document everything that she had to eat at the restaurant as well as anything she may have ingested even BEFORE or JUST AFTER going to the restaurant since it could've also been an item ingested somewhere else on the way to or from the establishment. An allergist can then, help determine what the most likely causative agent was that precipitated this reaction and come up with a plan to test the hypothesis and eliminate the offending agent.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dariush Saghafi, Neurologist
