What Causes Headache And Fever In A 12 Year Old?

We are on vacation and need to know if my 5'5", 115 pounds, 12-year-old son needs to see a dr. He slept restlessly last night, currently has a 100.3 temp and headache, complains of a sore throat in the evenings and upon awakening only, and his thumbs, forefingers and both legs feel like jelly. I am confounded by the last, never experienced that before. Should he see a dr. or can he just rest in bed? Jeanine Olswang

Hi Jeanine,
Welcome to HCM.
I know that you are very concerned about your child but don't worry as this is not an alarming situation.
The symptoms which your child have could be due streptococcal infection of throat.
In my opinion, the child will need antibiotics like amoxyclav for 3 days.
I think that you should meet the doctor for examination of child so that we don't miss any unusual condition.
I hope this will help you.
Take care.
