What Causes Fever And Throat Pain?

yes/ hello. my 5 yr old son says his mouth hurts and has had a fever-easily broken with motrin, of 101-103 for two days. could he be teething or could it be more likely a cold/illness since he is back in school? his glands are not swollen, and throat did not appear red.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hello. Thank you for your question.
Even in the absence of a red throat, throat infection is still more likely than teething. The infection could be viral, in which case fluids, rest, and motrin are all that are necessary. However, it could possibly be bacterial, in which case antibiotic would be required. I recommend consulting with your doctor so the correct diagnosis can be made and the appropriate treatment plan implemented.
